Pla de Bages is a privileged region surrounded by the mythical mountains of Montserrat and Castelltallat ranges, Sant Llorenç del Munt and Obac Natural Park.

Moreover, this Catalan Zone has a big tradition in producing wine, even do is a little region, it is heir of the big wine traditions in central Catalonia.

We will visit a family business, an organic winery that began to cultivate their own vineyards and work in the wine world in 1885 and nowadays is the fifth generation who takes special care in the vineyard and make effort to give the maximum quality to their products.

This experience also includes a visit to the winery which will give you the opportunity to visit a typical Catalan farmhouse and wander through the organic vineyards in its unique environment. We will get to know the local varieties like white Picapoll, sumoll , mandó and Red Picapoll, we will explore the production plant and the barrels room and finally, we will make a taste of 4  wines where they will explain us all about those wines accompanied by some appetizer.

After our wine tasting experience, we will learn all about Olive Oil.

Olive oil is a basic element of the Mediterranean diet, where most of the meals are served with an olive oil bottle on the side. For this reason, having this experience is a way of immersing yourself in the Catalan Culture.

This experience will show you the magnificent world of this liquid gold at the same time that you enjoy the beautiful countryside of Vall d’Hortons. Walking along the millenary organic olive groves, you will enjoy the quietness of the landscape with the fantastic views of Montserrat Mountains.

Our English speaking guide will explain you the difference between old and new plantations and will let you explore the different varieties of olives, Corbella and Arbequina.

Visiting the workshop where this oil is produced you will learn how the process is carried out and, finally, you will enjoy and oil tasting with typical and organic Catalan products from Vall d’Hortons like cheese, honey and cold meat.

After the visit and before returning to the city, we w¡ll go the little village of Castelladral, located on the top of a hill. It is a privileged location because it has Montserrat Mountains at its feet and the Pre-Pyrenees on its back.

I’m so thankful we found Melanie who made our anniversary trip so perfect. We spent 5 days in Barcelona and 3 with Melanie. The days she planned at wineries were so unique.

We had an amazing time on our Barcelona Discovery Tour! Definitely recommend the wine/olive oil tour and tour company. The communication setting up the tour was so easy. Melanie came to pick us up at our hotel and we drove through the beautiful Catalan region. It was a foggy day, but we were still able to see a little bit of Montserrat from the distance.

Our first stop was a beautiful winery, where we had a private tour with Marisola. We learned about the history of the winery and their wine making process (both old and new). We had a tasting of some great wines and an impressive spread including cheese, meat, bread, tomato, pate, chocolate, etc to accompany our wines in one of the historic stone houses. The wines and the experience were great! One of the best vineyard tours we’ve been on. The wines were really good and we ended up buying some to take home.

Our second stop was the olive oil tasting and tour. We had a private tasting and tour with Aena. We learned about the history of the olive orchard, what to look for in tasting, did a tasting, and then walked around the beautiful orchard. It was an awesome and new experience as we never did a olive oil tasting before. The olive oil was great and we ended up buying olive oil and chocolate for gifts.

It was an awesome day! Thanks to Melanie, we could not have been more happy with our tour. Barcelona Discovery does an awesome job of partnering with great wineries, olive orchards, and different experiences. We had such a great time. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Spain!

We had a group Wine Tour for 35 People organized by Melanie.
That tour is amazing, good food, very nice bus transfer, she also prepared the surprise bags with our company logo and water inside.

Melanie!!! Thank you so much for the most special tour we loved everything SO much I can’t even begin to tell you, the olive oil place was so magical and Ayena was the best host. The winery was phenomenal and again the best hosts with Ana and Bruzette. David was such a professional and polite driver who made the trip perfect.

What a beautiful day! We were picked up at our hotel PROMPTLY by David… he drove us to an AMAZING niche Olive Oil plantation. Operated the most wonderful and knowledgeable team. THE OIL was exquisite. Of course we had to buy a bunch. 😘

Next, we travel to another small niche winery… And all we can say is …. OMG. The wine was divine, from the whites, reds, sparkling and to the fabulous aged.

They also hold local events here… Weddings, teambuilding, private party and tapas and a wine bar on the weekends for locals …events… With four rooms to choose from, large to intimate the aesthetics were impressive . it’s owned by the same family for generations and the unique thing is that they have kept tools, bottles barrels and yes animal skins that wine was stored in. Very educational .

Needless to say several hundred dollars later… and several cases later heading to the states.
    Thank goodness they ship.

David’s driving was immaculate, safe and a beautiful journey we were taken back to our hotel.

A memory we soon will not forget.
